Wow! When I opened the package last night I was surprised by the heft of this book. Very high quality paper and images. Then I started reading and had to recheck my order. I can’t believe that it only cost about $26. I’d easily put it in the $100 range. There is a breadth of information to help get you started or improve your technique and a wonderfully mix of historical and contemporary paintings as examples. Simply Luscious Whoa – just got the book and two things stick out in my initial impressions: 1. this book is physically bigger than I expected and beautifully designed – the information is presented in an easy to absorb manner, which you’ll appreciate because it is loaded with information; and 2. Comprehensive — fills in all the gaps! Like the other reviewers, this book is gorgeous in terms of quality. So many art instruction books today are printed on paper that’s super-cheap so that the accompanying photos and illustrations aren’t clear enough to successfully support the concept that’s being explained. This book is oversized, the fonts selected are lovely to view and easy on the eyes, and the paper is hefty which allows the supporting images to be amazingly clear.
