Peter wants only milk, Lucy won’t settle for anything but homemade lemonade, and Jack is stuck on applesauce. Each new addition to the household brings a new demand for a special meal. I LOVE this book!! Many years ago, after our 5th child was born, we received a copy of this book from a dear friend who thought our family was excessively huge and that we’d be able to relate to the family in the book. (Plus, we have a Peter in our family, and the last name of the family is Peters.) Not only is the poem/story fun and…

Super fun and easy to read aloud! p next in the birthday book reviews is The Seven Silly Eaters by Mary Ann Hoberman. Now, this book is not new (published in 1997, to be exact), but it was new to us when our youngest got it as a gift, and it has been on constant repeat since September 26th! Hoberman has contributed many wonderful books to children’s literature (A House is a House for Me, All Kinds of Families, Strawberry Hill, the You Read to Me, I’ll Read to You series, among others!), and Marla Frazee has illustrated some of…

A Childhood Favorite of Mine! I discovered this book when I was in elementary school. When my wife and I got pregnant with our first baby I bought it right away so I could pass on the love for the Seven Silly Eaters. It is about a family with 7 kids who forget about their mom’s birthday. Each kid has a favorite food like milk, applesauce, eggs, etc. They combine all their favorite ingredients and bake a cake to surprise their mom. Such a cute story! I just wish there were a recipe at the end of the book!
