Love This Book I originally rented this book for one of my classes, but once I got a good look at it, I quickly returned my rental and bought it. I knew this would be a book I’d want to have on my shelf forever. The writers do a wonderful job of providing insightful history into the lives of composers, the development of theory, as well as the dynamic between classical music and society. Very well written and enjoyable to read.(In all fairness though, I’m a history and classical music nerd)

A Wonderful Book With Excellent Supplementary Material ! I am reviewing the hardcover edition — This is a truly wonderful book! Although it was designed as a music school text, it is a truly great source for an individual learner who loves music; and Norton (unlike many textbook publishers) has done an excellent job of integrating the supplementary material on the web and making that accessible to anyone who purchases a new book. In the book, the maps and illustrations do a good job of putting the musical content in an appropriate context. I…
